Rosary Extremism

An article titled, "How the Rosary Became an Extremist Symbol", was published in the Atlantic magazine this past Sunday. The author, Daniel Panneton, theology professor at the Catholic University of America, writes, "The rosary has acquired a militaristic meaning for radical-traditional (or "rad-trad") Catholics." He compares the Rosary to an AR-15 rifle.

Chad Pecknold, also a theology professor at Catholic University of America, told CNA , "The politically elite core in left-liberal media hate Western civilization and they mean to topple every natural and supernatural sign of it."

While the article is an example of ignorant bigotary, it contains an element of truth. On October 7, 1571, outnumbered, Christian forces defeated the Ottoman Empire in the Battle of Lepanto. It was a decisive naval battle. If the Ottoman Empire had prevailed, the Mediterranean Sea would have become a Muslim lake making the invasion of countries like Italy easy.

The Pope asked that everyone pray the Rosary for victory, he attributed the victory to the Rosary.

There are many other examples where Christianity was saved when people prayed the Rosary. Today the Church is being attacked by powerful forces that seek to destroy it.

Yes. The Legion of Mary is an extremist, radical, militant organization. We are the Church militant. We are Mary's army, "terrible as an army set in battle array". We have a powerful weapon, the Rosary. We will prevail over the dark forces that threaten our Church and our country.

Out Lady of Victories, pray for us.
