The New Evangelization

We hear about a "New Evangelization". In the past missionaries went to remote places to people who had never heard about Christianity. Today we live among people who know little to nothing about Jesus and his Church. Here at home Christianity is in decline. A new approach is necessary. Recent Popes and Bishops have asked that all Catholics be involved in contacting our neighbors and bring the faith to them. This is the "New Evangelization". Bishop Dewane says, "Enter into an open dialogue with others about your Faith - evangelize!". Pope Francis says, "Each Christian and every community must discern the path that the Lord points out, but all of us are asked to obey his call to go forth from our own comfort zone in order to reach all the peripheries in need of the light of the Gospel." Spreading the faith is commanded by Jesus. He says, "Go into the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation" MK 16:15 The Archbishop of Miami, Thomas Wenski, has directed his priests to consider the Legion of Mary as a response to Pope Francis's appeal, "to go out into the streets". Legion of Mary work is the "New Evangelization". When you bring the statue to homes, man the literature stand, work on extension, or go door to door welcoming new people, you are doing the "New Evangelization".
